The Journey Of The Peasant Mother-in-law Chapter 186: Carrying The Sword

Happy New Year friends. May we all have a great year!!!

Zhou Shuren tightened his embrace around Zhulan before saying, “Miss Dong has set her eyes on Chang Lian. The County Magistrate questioned both Chang Lian and Chang Zhi, and he was quite satisfied with Chang Lian. He even advised me to focus more on Chang Zhi in the future, urging him to pay more attention to practical matters. Despite his talents, it’s not good for his future if he’s too detached from common affairs.”

Zhulan sighed, “Master Dong and Madam Dong really care for their daughter. If she has set her sights on Chang Zhi, Miss Dong will have a lot to worry about in her lifetime.”

Zhou Shuren smiled, “There is a certain reason why they fell in love with Chang Lian is due to their eldest son-in-law. At first, their eldest son-in-law only studied and was not smart and considerate. He didn’t know how to protect his wife. This experience has taught them a lot, and now they think that Chang Lian’s thoughtful nature isn’t all bad.”

Zhulan laughed, “Master Dong’s calculations are clear. You have no connections. In the future, whether you are recruiting people or going further, you have to rely on Master Dong to a certain extent. He will help you. You will naturally keep it in mind. And given your character, you will not allow Chang Lian to bully Dong Chuchu in the future.”

Zhou Shuren understood, “We are all parents, and we have far-reaching plans for our children. It is human nature.”

Zhulan said: “According to Chang Lian’s cleverness, he must have guessed the purpose of this time. He must be so happy!”

Zhou Shuren thought about Chang Lian who had been so happy when he came back, and touched Zhulan’s finger, “Just in time, I also want to see Chang Lian’s reaction.”

He wanted to see if Chang Lian would get carried away from now on. If he did, don’t blame him for picking up the knife.

Zhulan was clear, Zhou Shuren will teach Chang Lian carefully, “I hope that the teachings for nearly a year will be useful, so he won’t let us down.”

The Zhou family were all astute individuals, and they could tell from Chang Lian’s return and the smile on Zhou Shuren’s face that things had worked out. Moreover, they realized that the person Master Dong had set his eyes on was Chang Lian. The eldest couple had also figured it out after some guidance.

Chang Lian became the son-in-law of the county magistrate’s family, which was a great joy to the Zhou family. During dinner, the whole family was filled with joy.

Zhulan still had no appetite. When she looked at the table, she thought of stewed snake meat. When she thought of the dishes cooked in the same pot in which the snake was stewed, her stomach was churning!

Zhulan felt uncomfortable, and Zhou Shuren’s pressure was not low. Boss Zhou wanted to congratulate Chang Lian, but when he saw his father’s expressionless face, he looked at the second child, who lowered his head to eat, as if today’s dish was particularly delicious. Again, he had no intention of talking at all and kept his mouth shut silently. He was not smart, but he could still feel some pulses, so he was right to follow the second son.

Due to Zhulan’s indirect influence, everyone ate dinner quietly. No one congratulated Chang Lian, and he calmed down from his feverish state. He was floating off the ground. He felt that even if he couldn’t compete with Chang Zhi in the future, he would still be able to become a county official. As the County Magistrate’s son-in-law, there was a guarantee that the family would ultimately rely on him. He was still waiting for the flattery of the whole family.

But his father’s indifference was like a slap in the face, sobering him up. This year, his fear of his father had gradually sunk into his bones. His brain was no longer hot, and his back was sweating coldly. He thought that his father’s expressionless face was because he was disappointed in him.

Chang Lian kept mentioning it in his heart. Today they only met each other verbally, and there was no marriage proposal. Everything can be changed. He thought carefully about the way back, and his father was silent. He deeply felt that he had dug a big hole for him, just waiting for him to jump, the cold sweat on his back became more, and he became more and more afraid of my father.

Zhou Shuren’s focus was on Zhulan, but he also kept an eye on his sons. The second son pleased him the most; he was calm and collected. Changzhi, on the other hand, showed no interest. The eldest son had become smarter, noticing the changes in Chang Lian. He could remain composed and fearful, and Zhou Shuren could see the results of Zhulan and his one-year efforts.

They were afraid that Chang Lian would be too selfish and that he would not be afraid of anything in the future. For now, things were going well, and there was no need for him to clean the sword.

As the meal, Zhulan forced herself to eat. Due to her good self-management, she waited for the children to go back to the house before going to the toilet to throw up. After rinsing her mouth, she lay down and refused to move. She was extremely weak. She had no energy to be careful. After resting for some time she said, “I will be better able to talk about the marriage proposal tomorrow morning.”

The County Magistrate had verbally informed them that the marriage proposal would be put on the agenda, and it would be done soon!

Zhou Shuren hugged Zhulan distressedly, stretched out his hand to pat his back, “Go to sleep, don’t be afraid as long as I’m here.”

Zhulan said, “Yes.”

Our ML and FL are pragmatic. And given that arranged marriage was the norm, they were happy because they were marrying up in their present situation. Any perdon at that era could have done the same. Forget ancient times, this will happen even today in my country. The only difference is the boy and the girl will be adults and meet at least once (with everyone watching ftom another room) before saying yes.
