The Journey Of The Peasant Mother-in-law Chapter 311: Caution

Xue Han found this very interesting. “Mom, what’s the point of this?”

Zhulan curved her eyes, “Because, a maid who is always strong in everything cannot see clearly her own status. She is not only willing to show off her ability but also willing to give orders to her master, which easily brings trouble to her master. As for a maid who only knows how to do things, she always looks at her own little piece of land. She cannot protect her master, but is likely to become a burden to her master.”

Xue Han pondered it carefully for a while, her eyes brightened, “Mom, what you said makes so much sense.”

Zhulan chuckled, “Look how excited you are. What Mother said is not accurate. It’s just that Mother is cautious by nature and tries to avoid trouble.”

In her modern experience, she didn’t need people who were too smart or self-righteous to work for her. She liked humble people who could adapt to the environment and quickly absorb the knowledge they needed to enrich themselves. She also liked hardworking people who tried to make up for their shortcomings, constantly broadened their horizons, and made progress slowly.

Although the employees under her would not produce results immediately, after continuous efforts, they all had a solid foundation. They went from making mistakes from time to time to rarely making mistakes and then to basically making no mistakes before she traveled through time. Each of them had a strong comprehensive ability.

Of course, everyone had different opinions and their own standards, but she was a cautious person and didn’t like trouble. This was just her standard.

Zhulan let out a long sigh. She had worked so hard to train up a team, and she had thought that the team would be able to stand on its own so that she could have more time to rest. However, she did not expect to be transported to ancient times and start a life of worry and worry. She was so upset!

Zhulan was upset and didn’t want to talk anymore. She said to her daughter, “I will teach you later.”

Zhao Shi listened very carefully. Her own mother had never taught her these things because her perspective was different. Her own mother could not teach her either. All she could teach her was to protect herself, be patient, and give in. But what her mother-in-law taught her made sense. She wanted to listen more!

Zhao Shi really envied her xiǎogūzi. Who was the most blessed in this family? In her eyes, her xiǎogūzi was the most blessed. As soon as she became sensible, the Zhou family moved up step by step. What her xiǎogūzi wore and used was no worse than that of a young lady. Once she bought a maid, she would be a real young lady. When her father-in-law became an official, her xiǎogūzi would be a young lady from an official family.

Although the engagement was arranged early, she didn’t feel it was a pity. Her standards weren’t high, but she had seen the conflicts that arise from mismatched social statuses, like in the case of Dong Shi. A daughter from a prominent family marrying into a lower family, or a wife being married into a high-status family, could lead to issues. If her xiǎogūzi married into a prominent family, she might suffer disadvantages. It was better to settle the engagement now—Rongchuan was good at his studies, and since he was raised by her parents-in-law, this bond would ensure her xiǎogūzi would never suffer in her lifetime!

Zhao Shi thought of her own daughter. Her daughter did not enjoy as much fortune as her xiǎogūzi because of their different statuses. Even though her father-in-law had become an official, there was still a significant difference between her daughter and her xiǎogūzi. Relying on her brother was not an option, and as for her husband, he did not hold an official position. Even considering the influence of her father-in-law, her granddaughter still fell short in many ways.

Zhulan had no idea that Zhao Shi had thought so much in such a short period. Second Zhou had sent people back, and not only did he come to the main courtyard, but he also brought Jiang Sheng’s parents and his elder brother along.

Zhou Shuren was not at home, so Zhulan brought her second son to receive Jiang Sheng’s parents. Tea was ready at home. Zhulan almost couldn’t recognize Jiang Sheng’s mother. The last time she saw her, Jiang Wang Shi was not so thin. Today, she looked so much thinner, and it had only been a few months.

Jiang Wang Shi felt her qīnjiā mǔ looking at her and her back stiffened. She was angry. She had not been able to eat since she knew that her qīnjiā mǔ had become the wife of a juren.

Zhulan’s gaze fell on the basket that was brought over. It was filled with eggs, and the most valuable item was a piece of meat. There were no small clothes for the children or anything else. Zhulan grew increasingly unimpressed with the Jiang family. Were they here to cry poor?

Jiang Sheng had given up on his own parents a long time ago, so he was not surprised to see that they brought such paltry items to see their two grandsons.

There was silence in the hall, no one spoke, it was really awkward.

Jiang Sheng’s father endured it again and again. He was still thinking about his two grandchildren, “Qīnjiā mǔ, we want to see the children.”

Zhulan looked at Jiang Sheng, and Jiang Sheng said, “Dad, the children are in the house. I’ll take you and mother there.”

Zhulan didn’t follow. There were too many people in the room and the air was bad, so it was better to sit and wait.

Second Zhou had a problem with the Jiang family, “Mom, my sister has been giving birth three days before and the Jiang family just came.”

Zhulan really didn’t care about this. “The first day, the birth was late. We found someone to notify them on the second day. It’s okay to come today. Alright, you can prepare to get down from the carriage. Jiang Sheng’s parents won’t stay for long; you’ll send them back shortly.”

The Jiang family didn’t have an ox cart, so it looked like they walked here. Their status and level were different now. They wouldn’t have bothered with the Jiang family before, and they won’t do that now. Besides, they also had to consider Jiang Sheng’s face.

As for Jiang Wang Shi’s stubbornness, she should come out of it herself. However, she thought that Jiang Wang Shi would come out of it soon. Zhulan couldn’t help thinking that the more people pretended and cared about other people’s opinions, the more they were willing to go to a dead end!

Second Zhou saw that his mother’s tone was indifferent, let alone angry, and there was no reaction. He was silent. He still had to practice. Look at how indifferent his mother was.

Zhulan got up and packed some cakes and took out some leftover clothes from making clothes for the children. These clothes were best for children. She heard from Xuemei that the eldest son of the Jiang family had a newborn son.

Jiang Sheng’s father came back happily. Having more grandsons meant a prosperous family, especially the youngest son’s family. He knew that there was a rift between his youngest son and the Jiang family. He had indeed gone too far, but broken bones were still connected with tendons. The youngest son was also a member of the Jiang family. If the youngest son lived well, he would have the face to see his ancestors after his death. As for some people who were jealous of his son being raised by the Yue family, he didn’t care. As long as he got benefits, it was fine.

He used to think he could get some benefits, but now he didn’t dare to think about it anymore. Now that his qīnjiā has become a juren, it was better for him to be honest.

Jiang Wang Shi also had a smile on her face. The two children were raised well. She thought twins were difficult to raise. But when she saw them, they were almost the same as full-term ones except that they were a little smaller. Thinking about the clothes her grandson would wear, she sighed deeply. She felt that it was a bit ridiculous for her to be so picky.

Jiang Wang Shi finally spoke, “I’m sorry to trouble you, qīnjiā mǔ, with both the child and Xuemei.”

Zhulan raised her eyebrows. Had Jiang Wang Shi finally come out of her stubbornness? “One is my own daughter, and the other two are my own wàisūn. I must take care of them.”

Jiang Wang Shi didn’t want to stay in Zhou’s house anymore. The jewelry on Zhou Yang Shi was dazzling. She had been pursuing it all her life. When she thought about how she didn’t have a single decent piece of jewelry and how much money Zhou Yang Shi’s bracelet must have cost, she felt upset again. She stood up and said goodbye, “We came here on foot. Now that we’ve seen that the children are fine and are being taken care of well by qīnjiā mǔ, we’ll go back first.”

Zhulan handed the return gift she had prepared to Second Zhou, “We don’t have anything good at home, but I heard that my qīnjiā have a new sūnzi, so this is a little gift for you.”

Zhulan said to Second Zhou again, “Send your uncle and aunt back.”

Second Zhou smiled and said, “Uncle and aunt, there is a carriage at home. I will take you back.”

Jiang Sheng looked at his qīnjiā mǔ with gratitude and admiration. This was what broad-mindedness looked like!

Second Zhou saw clearly and realized that his mother not only did not take the Jiang family seriously but also gave face to his mèifū. The two elders of the Jiang family were his mèifū’s parents. Not giving face to the Jiang family was also indirectly not giving face to his mèifū. His mother gave a face to his mèifū’s parents, so his mèifū would naturally be grateful to his mother and treat his sister better.

Second Zhou was said to have taken after his mother, but it seemed that he did not take after her at all. His mother could see through people’s hearts too well, and he learned some from her.

Second Zhou realized it and became more friendly to his mèifū’s parents. “Uncle and aunt, I also brought a water bag. You two can drink if you are thirsty on the road.”

Zhulan chuckled, Second Zhou was indeed very intelligent.
